My Teen is Driving Me Crazy!

When to speak? When to stay silent? When to act? When to let go?

I don’t know if you have ever been a mom of a teen, but wow- it is hard! I have taught teenagers for 12 years and have encouraged moms throughout saying , “It’s ok. He will grow out of it. Stay consistent. God will help you.” And now. . .
I am in that boat, talking to myself! Asking myself, when do I let go and when do I get firm? When do I say something, and when do I let it go?

I may not have the answers to that question in one simple sentence, but I do know a couple of things that may help us moms of teens!

1) Parenting is a wonderful responsibility from God. They are ultimately His children and He has promised to care for them. When we release them into His hands, He is reliable and will guide them from the inside and be there when we can’t.
2) Pray! Praying for our children makes a difference. I pray the small book of prayers from “Power of a Praying Parent” over my children everyday. At the beginning of the month I ask the Holy Spirit to show me what to pray for and then I write out a prayer based on the verses and prayers from the book and pray it over my children each day. (Sometimes many times a day like for my teen!)
3) Enjoy them! I know it may be hard to raise a teen, but it’s even hard being a teen. Don’t you remember? I do! Pray for guidance from the Holy Spirit on how to handle each situation and read some good books to help understand what your teen is going through. I am reading “For Parents Only” by Shaunti Feldhaun right now. I really recommend it if you want to get inside the head of your teen.
Remember: this is normal, this is going to pass, but stay diligent and stay the course. It is an awesome responsibility, but remember to enjoy the journey with them as well! God bless!

“Let us not become weary in doing good for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9

“I’m all in!”

“‘As surely as you live, my lord, I am the woman who stood here beside you praying to the LORD. I prayed for this child and the LORD has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the LORD. For his whole life he will be given over to the LORD.’And he worshiped the LORD there.” 1 Samuel 1″26-28

I love the story of Hannah! She loved God and she wanted a child so badly. “The LORD remembered” Hannah and gave her the son she was praying for. Hannah was so grateful she dedicated her son back to the LORD. She said, “After the boy is weaned I will take him and present him before the LORD and he will live there always.” (v.22) What great faith! What great gratitude!

What about you? Have you given your greatest gifts back to the God who gave them to you in the first place?

I oftentimes get on my face before God and thank Him for all He has done in my life. Like an offering we need to put our lives and anything and everything precious to us at His feet as an offering as well. He deserves all we have. When we hold on to it, it will never get its best. Only when we let go of it and lay it at the feet of Jesus can it be all it was meant to be. His ways are greater than our ways! It is as if we are at his feet and give Him everything we have and say, “I’m all in, Lord!” Isn’t He so worth it!

I am Nothing without Jesus

I love when Jesus talks about He is the vine and we are the branches.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5

It is my reminder that when I try to do something apart from God- it will surely fail. I have to remember that apart from Him- I am nothing, but through Him I can “bear much fruit”.

I want to “bear much fruit” not for my sake, but for God’s. He is so worthy of all of the honor and glory that I can give. I must remember to God alone belongs all the glory and honor because apart from Him, I am nothing.

Ask yourself: What am I doing or trying to change? Am I doing it in my own power? Is it working? Give it all to God and ask Him to make the change. Then trust He will do it in His perfect timing.

Our God is a good and faithful God!

he does not treat us as our sins deserve
or repay us according to our iniquities.
For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so great is his love for those who fear him”

Psalm 103:10-11

May God continue to bless and guide you!
